“Hamlet” Hits the Stage for Area High School Students
Friends of the Arts in collaboration with Plymouth State University Department of Theatre presented Shakespeare’s “Hamlet” at the Silver Center for the Arts as a bus-in for area high school students. Students from Franklin High School, Sant Bani, Plymouth Regional High School and Newfound Memorial High School and Proctor Academy experienced a 90-minute live performance of the classic play with the option of a 45-minute Stage Combat Workshop following the performance. “The story came to life with sword fights, stage combat, jealousy and betrayal. This was a great way to enhance students’ understanding of Shakespeare and to ensure a deeper level of appreciation for the nuances in the play”, said Sharon LaJoie, Executive Director for Friends of the Arts. Kevin Asselin, PSU alumni and professional actor, played the lead role in “Hamlet” and taught the Stage Combat Workshop following the performance.
