Introduction to Exploring Art

Part One: FEBRUARY 2008
Friday, 15th (50 minute lectures)
10 am, 1:30 pm
The Currier Museum of Art
"Introduction to Exploring Art"

Part Two: May 2008 Date TBA

The Currier Museum of Art will reopen its doors to the public in spring 2008 after undergoing an extensive building expansion. Your middle and high school students can be some of the first to visit!

The Currier has scheduled a two-part program through Friends of the Arts to introduce students to the museum and its collections. These theme-based school programs are designed to develop students' critical thinking and visual literacy skills, and to foster an appreciation for art. Trained museum docents will lead each program.

Part One: Before visiting the museum, students will explore works from the museum's collection focusing on artists' intents and techniques through examining the elements of art. Artwork from the Renaissance to the present day will be included. This lecture will be held on the Plymouth State Campus.

Part Two: Using the visual vocabulary learned from the first program, students will have an interactive, discussion-based thematic tour of the newly renovated Currier Museum of Art. Following the tour, students will work on a related art project in the new classrooms. Students can bring their lunches to eat at the museum. Recommended for grades 8 – 12.

All programs are designed by the education staff at The Currier Museum to support state curriculum standards.
